Ocean Salinity Conference 2024

13-16 May | ESA ESTEC (hybrid) | The Netherlands

Ocean salinity is a key variable within the Earth’s water cycle and a key driver of ocean dynamics. Sea surface salinity (SSS) and subsurface salinity have been identified as Essential Climate Variables by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS) and Essential Ocean Variables by the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS). Through the advent of new observing technologies for salinity and the efforts to synthesize salinity measurements with other observations and numerical models, salinity science and applications have significantly advanced over recent years.

A semi-regular conference series focusing on ocean salinity observations and science has helped foster the rapidly growing applications of salinity data. This is the 7th of a series of international salinity community meetings, following 1) Brest, France - 2013; 2) Exeter, UK - 2014; 3) Hamburg, Germany - 2015; 4) Falmouth/MA, USA - 2017; 5) Paris, France – 2018; 6) NYC, USA – 2022.

The Ocean Salinity Conference 2024 will foster scientific exchanges and collaborations in the broad community involved in ocean salinity science, applications, technology development, product services, and community building.

**The conference will be undertaken concurrently with the ESA Climate Change Initiative Sea surface Salinity project workshop, and will showcase the latest v4 product release and gather user feedback**
