Supporting the Paris Agreement
These research projects use satellite-derived climate data records, including those developed through the ESA Climate Change Initiative, to advance climate science and inform Paris Agreement planning, monitoring and reporting across the following focus areas:
Biodiversity
Exploring the application of climate data records to support studies of ecosystem change and their interactions with climate change, including climate extremes, the carbon and water cycles, and human activities
Cities
Advancing understanding of city-level climate impacts, risks and climate response options , for example, their identification, monitoring, quantification, and potential for impact/risk reduction, supported by the application of Earth Observation data.
Health
Exploring how Earth Observation data can support the identification, monitoring and quantification of health risks linked to climate hazards - addressing exposure and vulnerability - and the informing of risk reduction strategies.
GHG mitigation, reporting & fluxes
Support to climate policy mitigation needs under the UNFCCC Paris Agreement using advancing EO-based knowledge and partnerships.
