New Position: Junior Professional in AI for Climate Science
Opportunity for early-career Artificial Intelligence talent to join ESA’s Actionable Climate Information Section
A new position for a Junior Professional in Artificial Intelligence for climate science within ESA’s Actionable Climate Information Section at ECSAT in Harwell, UK (or other locations as needed) is now open. This four-year assignment is part of ESA’s Junior Professional Programme, designed for candidates with 2-3 years’, post-Master’s professional experience.
As a Junior Professional, you will contribute to advancing the availability and use of global, satellite-based Earth observation data to support informed decision-making. Your work will align and support cutting-edge R&D programmes such as ESA’s Climate Change Initiative (CCI), which plays a vital role in supporting international climate efforts, including those under the UNFCCC Paris Agreement.
The ESA CCI already harnesses artificial intelligence - from enhancing data processing workflows to powering predictive models and forecasting tools. In this role, you’ll apply AI to strengthen climate system understanding, inform evidence-based policy and accelerate global climate action.
The Junior Professional Programme (JPP) is a structured career-entry path designed for early-career professionals who aspire to work at ESA for the long-term. This is your opportunity to gain in-depth experience, develop your skills and collaborate with leading experts in climate science, modelling and AI, gain cross-site experience, and prepare for a long-term future at ESA.
The application closing date is 5 June 2025 23:59 CET/CEST, with a projected start date in October or November 2025.
