Biomass Change (2022)
Biomass Change (2022)

The 2022 Biomass Change Virtual Workshop was focused on how to quantify changes in above ground biomass given anticipated provision of time-series products generated from Earth observation data. Consideration was given to the nature of biomass change across time and space, change methods and algorithms and emerging user requirements, with local to global use cases and applications presented. Recordings of the presentations are available here.

Biomass Change (2024)

The 2024 Biomass Change Workshop (Berlin, Germany) reflected on progress in the generation of several global biomass maps and their use for quantifying change. Following a review of current approaches, discussions targeted requirements by the carbon cycle and climate modelling communities, approaches to uncertainty assessment and ground validation, consolidation of detection algorithms across scales, and approaches to explaining the changes observed.

Biomass Change (2026)

The forthcoming 2026 Biomass Change Workshop (Berlin, Germany 4-5 February) will review and update on recent progress in above ground biomass change estimation given the release of time-series global maps, including 10 datasets from ESA CCI Biomass. The Workshop focus will be on methodological advances and future directions, major issues and challenges, approaches to uncertainty assessment, and the roles of new sensors.
